Storyline:
The movie is narrated by an ordinary, lonely, spiritually empty office employee (Edward Norton) who suffers from chronic insomnia and tries to escape from his humdrum existence. In an attempt to find comfort, he begins attending different disease support groups where he meets a charming but gloomy young woman, Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter), who is a pretender as the narrator is. While traveling on business, he encounters a more intriguing personage – Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a charismatic and cunning soap salesman. According to his perverted philosophy, self-perfection is the destiny of the weak and the only thing worth living for is self-destruction. They become fast friends and form an underground club where aggressive young men give vent to their frustrations in violent bare-knuckle fighting. But when Fight Club starts a cross-country expansion, the narrator makes a shocking discovery…

Fight Club is one of the most unique films I have ever seen. In addition to presenting a rather fresh take on life, FC also presents its material in a fresh way. My main interest in the film is in that, in my opinion, it does not present characters for us to think about. Rather, it presents actions for us to think about. I will say that I cannot recall *ever* having been “asked” by a film to both suspend my disbelief the way this film asks in its third act AND at the same time come to terms with an understanding that there is no room–or need–for disbelief.
Perhaps these comments will not make sense to the average movie goer who will dismiss this film–and, unfortunately, its premise–as another hollywood flick filled with gratuitous violence. I’d go as far as to say that this film is not about violence. It is about choices. It is about activity. It is about lethargy. It is about waking up and realizing that at some point in the past we’ve gone to the toilet and thrown up our dreams without even realizing that society has stuck its fingers down our throat.
I would argue that anyone caught, at some point in their lives, between a rock and a hard place–anyone who has reached bottom on a mental level–anyone who has uttered to themselves “Wait, this isn’t right. I would not do/say/feel what it is that I just did/said/felt… I do not like this. I must change before I am forever stuck being the person that I am not.” These people, they will know what I’m talking about. These people will not only recognize the similarities between Edward Norton’s character and themselves–they will be uncomfortably familiar with him. These people will appreciate Fight Club for what it is: a wake up call that we are not alone.
As David Berman once said: “I’m afraid I’ve got more in common with who I was than who I am becoming.” If this sentence makes any sense to you, go see Fight Club. You won’t regret it.

Storyline:
Vietnam War veteran John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is living and working in Thailand near the Burmese border transporting people across the river while a village in Burma is permanently tortured by savage local militaries. Rambo is an 80s-style action movie with modern sensibilities. Stallone is not a one-man army as in previous movies but rather a dogged old soldier that comes to terms with what he actually is while racking up a body count that would make Tarintino proud. In many ways, this movie parallels Rocky Balboa as a mature ending to a series of sometimes over-the-top but fun action movies. John Rambo in this movie is an aging but potent killing machine that for the first time since First Blood accomplishes his mission in a very believable manner. The action is visceral and downright gory at times surpassing the hard-core scenes of Omaha Beach in Saving Private Ryan. The film pulls no punches when showing exactly what a Barret .50 caliber sniper rifle can do to a human body. Stallone mutters only a very few lines of dialog in this movie… there’s no speeches or patriotic flag waving going on here but there is a clear lesson on how well liberal idealism holds up under barbaric realities amid genocide and war.

Bourne (Damon) sets up a meeting with Ross (Considine) and realizes instantly they’re being scanned. Information from the reporter stirs a new set of memories, and Bourne must finally, ultimately, uncover his dark past whilst dodging The Company’s best efforts in trying to eradicate him.

I don’t hand out ten star ratings easily. A movie really has to impress me, and The Bourne Ultimatum has gone far beyond that. Furthermore, this trilogy has come together so nicely, that I believe it to be one of the greatest motion picture trilogies of our time. Though all three films could not be any more different from the Ludlum novels, they still stand as a powerful landmark in cinematic achievement. The Bourne Ultimatum made me want to cry that the series was complete, yet I could not even attempt to stop smiling for hours.
From the moment that the opening title appeared, I knew we were in for a ride. Paul Greengrass has done it again. Everything we love from the previous Bourne films is here once again: the action, the dialogue, and of course the shaky camera. However for me, that last one was never a problem. I think it adds to the suspense.
I will be back to see this film several times before it is released on DVD, simply because it is genius. It is a perfectly satisfying conclusion, and should stand the test of time as a fantastic movie, and altogether, an unforgettable trilogy.
